Although the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has been postponed for the time being, the fair could be held at any time of the year. However, it will depend on how much and how quickly the Covid-19 situation comes under control. According to the Ministry of Commerce, such a hint was found on Wednesday.
Usually DITF is held in January every year in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Since the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center has been set up in Purbachal near Dhaka, the fair will be held there from now on. As the incidence of Covid-19 did not decrease enough, preparations were made to organize the fair next March. The organizer of the fair, EPB, said on January 10 that the fair will start on March 18, the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The International Exhibition Center will be inaugurated on the same day. Though permission was sought from the Prime Minister’s Office for this, the Commerce Ministry did not receive any green signal from the Prime Minister’s Office till tomorrow.
Commerce Secretary. Jafar Uddin said in the first light yesterday, now it has become a permanent structure. The result can be a fair at any time of the year. The fair could be held in June, July and even October-November without the coveted situation.
According to EPB sources, there are 800 stalls in the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center built on 20 acres of land in Purbachal.
Initially, 39 acres of vacant land at the old Tejgaon airport was initially earmarked in 2009 for a permanent international exhibition center, but no space was found there in the end. The project was later shifted to Purbachal suburb.
